MOT DU PRÉSIDENT

¨CHAPITRE DU FORT SAINT-JEAN¨

En mai 2007 le Conseil Général du Club des Collèges militaires royaux du Canada, approuvait à l'unanimité une résolution permettant la conclusion du rapprochement initié il y a maintenant plus de cinq ans.

Cette résolution donnait le coup d'envoie, entre autres, permettant de réunir le Chapitre de Montréal et l'Escadre Saint-Jean en un nouveau chapitre dont le nom provisoire est le ¨Chapitre du Fort Saint Jean¨.

Une lettre intitulée ¨Conclure le rapprochement¨()vous explique tous les détails concernant cet évènement de grande importance, qui amène une toute nouvelle dimension au Club des Collèges militaires royaux du Canada de la région de Montréal/Saint-Jean, mais aussi à tous les Anciens et Anciennes qui ont étudiés au Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean. Ce que je souhaite faire dans cette édition du MOT du Président, c'est de vous informer des évènements qui se sont produits depuis mai 2007 et de vous parler de la fin de semaine des anciens qui se déroulera les 19 et 20 septembre prochains.

Je débuterai par la réunion du 10 mars 2008 qui a eu lieu au Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean en présence de représentants de l'Escadre Saint-Jean, du Chapitre de Montréal, du comité du rapprochement, du Président de la Fondation du Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean, du représentant des Anciens siégeant sur le CA de la corporation du Fort Saint-Jean et de moi-même. Le but de cette rencontre était de former le nouveau chapitre que l'on appelle pour le moment le Chapitre du Fort Saint-Jean et de mettre en place un exécutif provisoire.

Pierre Daigle , président de l'Escadre Saint-Jean, nous informe que ses nouvelles responsabilités à Ottawa ne lui permettront plus d'assumer d'autres fonctions au sein du Club des Anciens à ce moment-ci et de se fait il terminera son mandat avec la formation du nouveau chapitre. André Durand quant à lui souhaite continuer à servir les anciens mais à un autre poste que celui de président. C'est dans ce contexte que le poste de président du nouveau Chapitre du ¨Fort Saint-Jean¨ m'est offert et que j'ai accepté avec fierté et enthousiasme. Bob Benn accepte le poste de Vice-président et André Durand devient Secrétaire exécutif. Cet exécutif provisoire devra être formellement approuvé lors d'un vote qui se tiendra vendredi le 19 septembre avant le TGIF. Je remercie Bob et André d'avoir accepté de faire partie de cette nouvelle équipe. Leur dévouement, leur mémoire corporative ainsi que leur créativité sont des actifs précieux pour cette nouvelle organisation.

A court terme, c'est-à-dire pour la fin de semaine des Anciens, notre nouvel exécutif c'est donné trois objectifs,

•  Recrutement et organisation de l'exécutif
•  Établir nos objectifs et priorités pour l'année 2008/09
•  L'organisation de la fin de semaine des Anciens, le 19 et 20 septembre

L'équipe s'est mise au travail très rapidement. En effet nous avons eu depuis le mois mars :

• Quatre réunions de travail de l'exécutif
• Une rencontre avec le Sénateur Dallaire à Ottawa
• Tim Sparling (président du Club des Collèges militaires royaux du Canada) et moi avons rencontré le Commandant du CMR, le Colonel Pion
• J'ai rencontré le président de la fondation du CMR, Normand Perreault, ainsi que notre représentant sur le CA de la Corporation du Fort Saint-Jean, André Lecavalier.

Cette année la fin de semaine des Anciens revêt un caractère tout à fait particulier puisque avec le départ d' Hélène Ladouceur de ses fonctions de secrétaire exécutive, après trente cinq ans de dévouement et de loyauté exceptionnel envers les Anciens et Anciennes du Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean.

En effet, cette fin de semaine lui sera dédiée et tout particulièrement la soirée du samedi soir où un hommage spécial lui sera offert. Je vous convie donc toutes et tous à venir en grand nombre rencontrer Hélène et lui exprimer personnellement vos remerciements et votre admiration pour celle qui pendant toutes ses années a été le centre de gravité du club des anciens du Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean. Déjà nous savons que le Sénateur, Général Dallaire sera des nôtres.

Je suis heureux d'annoncer que Pierre Cadotte a accepté de se joindre à notre comité exécutif et de prendre en charge l'organisation de cette fin de semaine toute spéciale. Je remercie Pierre d'avoir joint notre équipe et d'avoir accepté cette lourde responsabilité qu'est l'organisation de la fin de semaine des Anciens et l'hommage à Hélène les 19 et 20 septembre prochains.

Je terminerai en remerciant d'une façon toute particulière Pierre D'aigle pour sa contribution auprès des Anciens et Anciennes du Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean. Le prestige de son impressionnante carrière dans les Forces canadiennes, son dévouement et son franc parler ont contribué à la notoriété des Anciens et Anciennes de Saint-Jean. En leur nom et en mon nom, nous te remercions sincèrement et te souhaitons bonne chance et succès dans tes nouveaux défis.

 

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

¨FORT SAINT-JEAN CHAPTER¨

In May 2007 the General Council of the Royal Military Colleges Club of Canada, unanimously approved a resolution which concluded “ le Rapprochement ” initiated more than five years ago.

This event initiated several actions, one being the integration of the Montreal chapter and l'Escadre Saint-Jean into a new chapter, currently named “Chapitre du Fort Saint Jean ”.

A letter entitled ¨ Conclure le rapprochement ¨ explains the details of this highly significant event, which gives a new dimension not only for the Royal Military Colleges Club of Canada Montreal/Saint-Jean region, but also for all ex-cadets that went through le Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean. I wish to take this occasion to inform you of what has transpired since May 2007, and brief you about the Ex-Cadet long weekend that will take place this September 19 th and 20 th .

I will start by a meeting that took place at le Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean on 10 March 2008, which included members of l'Escadre Saint-Jean, the Montreal Chapter of the Royal Military Colleges Club of Canada, the Rapprochement committee, the President of the CMR Ex-Cadet Foundation, the Ex-Cadet representative on the BOD of Corporation du Fort Saint-Jean, and myself. The purpose of the meeting was to create a new Chapter, which will be pro tem called “le Chapitre du Fort Saint-Jean ”, as well as name an interim Executive Committee.

Pierre Daigle , President of l'Escadre Saint-Jean informed us that due to his new demanding responsibilities in Ottawa he will not be able to assume any new functions, for now, with the Ex-Cadet Club. He will therefore end his mandate with the creation of the new Chapter. André Durand, however, wishes to carry on serving the ex-cadet community, but no longer as President. It is in this context that I was offered the position of President of the new “ Fort Saint-Jean ” Chapter. Bob Benn has accepted to be Vice-President and André Durand will become Executive Secretary. This interim Executive Committee will be proposed for formal appointment at a vote to be held on 19 September before the TGIF. I wish to thank Bob and André for accepting being part of this new team. Their dedication, corporate memories and creativity are valuable assets to this new organisation.

In short term, that is by the upcoming Ex-Cadet weekend, our new Executive Committee has given itself three objectives:

• Recruitment and organisation of the Executive
• Establish objectives and priorities for 2008/09
• Organise the Ex-Cadet weekend, 19,20 September

The team has gotten to work quickly, and since March the following actions have taken place,

•  Four Executive meetings
•  A meeting with Senator Dallaire in Ottawa
•  Tim Sparling (President of the Royal Military Colleges Club of Canada) and I met with the CMR Commandant, Colonel Pion
•  I met with the President of the CMR EX-Cadet Foundation, Normand Perrault, and the Ex-Cadet representative on the BOD of la Corporation du Fort Saint-Jean, André Lecavalier.

This year the Ex-Cadet weekend has something particularly special as we are honouring Hélène Ladouceur. As you might know, she is retiring from the executive secretarial function after thirty five years of dedicated and loyal services to the Ex-Cadets of le Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean.

The Ex-Cadet weekend will be dedicated to Hélène, especially a Saturday night function where we will be honouring her. I am inviting you all to come in large numbers to personally meet Hélène and express your thanks and admiration for all her years as the center of gravity of le Club des Anciens du Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean. We already know that Senator/General Dallaire will be with us for the event.

I am also very pleased to announce that Pierre Cadotte has accepted to join our Executive Committee and take charge of the special Ex-Cadet weekend organisation. I wish to personally thank Pierre for joining our organisation and especially to have accepted the enormous task to organise the Ex-Cadet weekend and Hélène event that will take place on September 19 th and 20 th .

I conclude by offering special thanks to Pierre Daigle for his contribution to his fellow Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean Ex-Cadets. The prestige of his impressive Canadian Forces carrier, his dedication and forthright approach, all contributed to the Ex-Cadets' profile. On behalf of myself and all Ex-Cadets, especially CMR Ex-Cadets, I wish Pierre all the best in his endeavours.
